The above is a bit of a misnomer, as it isn’t actually fun, more of a necessity. However, to move on, I have started to design my website. The most important (in my opinion) part of the marketing strategy discussed in my previous blog. At this point, I feel it is important to stress that I am testing various methods of getting my work to a wider audience and I make no apologies that this blog is part of it.
In my research, I have discovered a number of important points that will help me succeed in marketing my work. But firstly I want to state something – My journey, and the decisions I make are not an instruction manual – It is what I am doing, based upon what I have learned. Please see it as only that and not advice.
The web site
I have started on the website element first, as it seems that everything else hangs off this. The blog, advertising, email lists and somewhere to place cheeky anecdotes that bring a smile and increase traffic; and there is the key… traffic. A shop window is where (traditionally) a product would be placed and in 2020 there is nowhere else more effective. It is both a blessing and the devil personified, for a number of reasons.
Firstly, just take a look at the high street today. It is dying, mainly due to the internet and the excessive costs involved in running a physical store. I personally, am not happy about it, but I am stuck with. As are you, so I embrace the change.
Secondly, having accepted the above (the devil), the advantages become very clear. With proper marketing and a well designed website, the chances of your book being seen (and bought) must increase. The cost of a website is not high, in comparison to a physical site but that creates another problem. There are billions of them, all trying to do the same thing. Sell!
Having accepted the above, the answer seems obvious (to me). Spend the time and effort to make the very best website possible. Make it interesting, engaging and user friendly. Make people want to see it, spend time there and maybe but a book or two.
The above is why you cannot see my site yet. I’m doing the best that I can before releasing it.
Adieu
